Unless a maneuver description specifically says that actions like moving, charging, or taking other actions don't provoke AoOs, they do. You don't provoke AoOs when initiating a maneuver or stance unless the description explicitly says otherwise. If you initiate a maneuver and a situation arises where it can't be used, it is still expended. Furthermore, if you're injured or affect by hostile spells, powers, or maneuvers while initiating a maneuver/stance, you don't lose it in the process. Unlike spells and psionics, maneuvers/stances don't require concentration.

You can remain in a stance outside of combat situations. You enjoy the benefit your stance confers until you chance to another stance you know or a condition occurs that breaks the stance (such as moving more than 5 feet with certain Stone Dragon stances). A stanc remains in effect indefinitely and isn't expended. Stances always take a swift action to initiate. Unlike a wizard preparing spells, you can't choose to leave a readied maneuver slot unfilled.Īll maneuvers have an "initiation action" which is the same thing as casting time for spells. Regardless of the class, this activity takes 5 minutes of preparation time. Readying maneuvers requires a brief period of activity dependent upon your martial adept class. Add any modifiers from prestige classes to the class' number of maneuvers readied. In this case, use the class' number of maneuvers readied. It's possible for a character to gain Martial Study before entering a class that grants a progression for powers readied. These extra maneuvers readied add to your maximum number readied, regardless of martial adept class or the number of times you've taken the Martial Study feat. If you advance in a prestige class that grants additional maneuvers, that class detals how many more you can ready. If you are a martial adept and you have the Martial Study feat, you don't gain any bonus to your ability to ready maneuvers-the maneuver you learned with the feat is just one more maneuver you can choose to ready from your availible slots. If you have no levels in a martial adept class (if you learned a maneuber by taking the Martial Study feat), you can ready each maneuver you know.

The number of maneuvers you can ready at one time depends on your class and level. However, maneuvers require preparation in a method defined by your martial adept class. You don't need to ready stances ahead of time as known stances as always availible to you. The type of action necessary depends on what type of martial adept you are. In other words, you can't use an expended maneuver again until you you rest for a brief time or perform a specific action in combat that allows you to recover maneuvers. You can use a stance or maneuver as many times as you like in a single day, but each time you use a maneuver, you temporarily expend it-you lost a little of your mental focus, exhaust some small portion of personal ki or energy, or you simply finish the move out of position and can't immediate launch it again without assuming the proper posture and mental state first. A stance is never expended and is always availible to you. * Maneuvers (which include boosts, counters, and strikes).Ī martial maneuver is a discrete extraordinary or supernatural effect that is temporarily expended after use.
